Re: Group Build 6 month- open class (9-1-08) $$PRIZE

I've only tried indy plastic links twice. Once was on Tamiya's Tiger 1 and the first time was Tamiya's 'Greif' halftrack (250?). Both were pretty ordinary attempts. For me, the track sag on Tigers and Panthers kinda make or break the whole look of the model. Since the tracks don't actually touch the forward roadwheel(s), they're difficult to get right. From memory, the track contacts on the top at the third wheel from the front when at rest. If you have return rollers along the top run, the gaps between contact points are quite short...Dragon include a basic jig. I emphasize 'basic'. Seems easier to me, at least I visualise it easier. If it were me, I'd assemble the wheels temporarily mounted and add the tracks. I'd then pull the wheels off and have the tracks set in their final shape for painting. I think indy link tracks are a real challenge but the benefits far outweigh the hassle. Again, nice work McCoy...looking forward to seein' more.
Peace.

This build could be fun an challenging at the same time.

I opened up the horse kit (Dragon - two horses and riders). It has metal stirrups, separate tail, ear, and mouth sections for changes where needed, and all the gear that goes with the rider on campaign. So far it looked alright.

Then the nasty realisation - no bits and no reins. Looks like it will be make fiddly small bits time otherwise they are going to look just plain stupid. A pity considering all the goodies that you do get such as a choice of weapons from rifle and schmeisser to a Panzerfaust.

Never mind though, there is plenty of time.

Ever see Airfix's old 120mm Napoleonic figures? I built maybe five of them and they all required paper straps and belts. Airfix supplied a plastic template and I would build them all in a flash (seen 'em on eBay but I have bigger fish to fry). Bits might be a challenge but reins could be made with paper or masking tape. Horses man...now there's a challenge. Good luck.

Re: Group Build 6 month- open class (9-1-08) $$PRIZE

Running into a bit of a snag (no pun intended) on the rigging. My method of holding the rigging line that is popped down through the bottom wing, held with a hemostat in place overnight, after having placed some glue in the hole, isn't working all that well. I opted not to use CA (with or without accelerator) in favor of Liquid Glue...and not enough glue is apparantly not making it into the hole. The rig line popped right back out. Arrrr.

So, I ran the line through an entire wing's 3 cells, and tied them up opposite of each other's opposite strut, loosely, and will pop some glue through the underside, where I have better access with the plane upside down, and "suspend" the bird by this new loop, for the taughtness in the rigging. Just an idea...I'll see if it works better. Experimenting for a technique that does the job the best way. This latter method is my own, so who knows if it'll work. We'll see!

You may be having problems with the liquid glue not 'dissolving' the stuff you're using to rig with. I'll just bet CA will solve the problem.

Yes. Got given one. It's somewhere in the shed. A British line infantryman. I think it's 54mm though. Must check the straps. Thanks.

Now that you mention it, I think they are 54mm...I liked the 95th Rifleman the best...built him twice.

Re: Group Build 6 month- open class (9-1-08) $$PRIZE

Can I put another couple of entries in?

Both Airfix so should be a challenge!!!

A Hawker Hurricane IIb and a Bristol Blenheim MkIV:

The Hurricane is going to be finished as the aircraft handed over to the VVS and presented to Major General A. A. Kuznetsov, who was the Commanding Officer, Naval Air Forces, Soviet Northern Fleet.

It has recently been recovered from a lake bed and is under going retoration.

Details on the website HERE

I have a set of after market decals for the aircraft.

Great pic Wolster...the tubular construction is clearly visible.
Mate, you can enter as many kits as you can finish as far as I'm concerned.
