Re: Group Build 6 month- open class (9-1-08) $$PRIZE
I like 1/48 because it's a good medium size. I like to add stuff whether it be a full detail set or just a set of seat belts. I find 1/48 gives me the 'right' amount of space to work in. 1/72 requires a microscope and 1/32 looks a bit 'empty' depending on what the kit provides. I usually don't bother with 1/72 because there's not enough going on to satisfy my eyes.
When I started to build, 1/48 was a pretty rare scale. These days, all the major types are represented in 1/48 and the kits are good quality. I'd say 1/48 is a pretty good scale for one offs. They don't take up a lot of space either.

As you know, the Staghound is from Italeri, the crewman is from Tamiya's Churchill tank and the base is Verlindens church ruin. The model is hand painted using Vallejo's model colour and humbrol enamals then matted over using humbrols acrylic sprays. The exhausts were rusted using very tiny iron filings painted on with PVA glue and then soaked in salty water overnight. I'm glad you like it guys. I don't usually buy British vehicles but there was an excellent write up in a magazine and i had to do it. I'm really pleased with the way it turned out.
