Just go to the website and it will tell you everything you want to know. It is the closest game to real war that I have ever seen. From supply routes to tanks to airplanes to the ocean and taking cities. The map on the main page shows the progress on each side. Axis and Allies. I love this game. On this map there are thousands of players at one time. Like I said as Land, Sea, and Air.

But if you just want to run around in a amazingly big, but baddly coded game engine by all means.
I can be the first to point out the hundreds of flaws in this game, but I can also point out the benifits.
But the first time you take a Pzkwg VIE out with a M4 Sherman at 2KM range frontal engagement, you will birth a Vanigan. Or the first time you fire a 88mm gun from the Tiger and hit a Panhard frontally and it drives off. Or you put 30 9mm rounds in the back of the head of a infantry guy staring blindly out a window, only to have him turn around and shoot you once and you die. Or have a tank sapped by the magic bag of kill all powder that the sappers get. Or have the Bf110C as you ONLY fighter for the first week to two weeks of the campaign. This wouldnt be bad, but your tring to rundown A20 Havocs, and fight Hurricane Mk 1s, and P36s..... But thats BALANCED.
Or when you point out bug.... "The MP40 fires backwards..." and get the responce from the lead programmer, DOC, "No it doesnt I tested it myself."
Or you get flamed and banned on the forums for pointing out the obvious... like the High Explosive modeling SUCKS.... 75mm Howitzer HE round lands within 2m of a Infantry standing in a open field.... and he runs off.
Honestly this is one of those games that is best in the free trial but the fun factor wheres off FAST.

Sure, there are problems, but you won't find another WW2 game like it.
Older vid showing the damage model.
Weird things can happen, but I have never taken out a Tiger from 2km frontally with a Sherman. And yeah, sometimes you hit a Panhard with a Tiger and it just drives off....... but stuff like that happened in real life too. Sometimes a bigger and faster shell was not that great against soft skinned targets. In one side and out the other with no bouncing around turning everyone into mince meat.

Wow you dug up a year old thread, and posted a 7 year old video...
WWIIOL is nothing it originally claimed to be. Realistic, or a WWII sim.
Its at best a game.. like BF1942.
its sim aspec sucks, now that the game world is about half the population it was a year ago... and one tenth it was 6 years ago... its really big and empty...
BUT there is hope for change...
The 1.31 upgrades should improve the game...lol
Which I dont know how adding frame rate eating rain that has NO affect on performance of vehicles offroad, or prevent planes from flying low is going to improve things.
And Rag doll support is something thats soooo 2004, but its a nice step foward. Hopefully the High explosives model gets a much needed boost too...
250kg bomb landing next to a sherman.... (with in 5m) sherman drives off...
Perhaps HEAT rounds will actaully work as they did in real life...
But then again... I am expecting TOO much...
Perhaps I should just see if they put out a patch that doesnt have more bugs than fixes.
