Estonian Waffen SS Legion was formed in order to protect Estonia against the attacking hordes of communists. It should be noted that Waffen SS was not the ordinary SS and therefore should not be mixed with it. Waffen SS was created as an active military formation for front actions.

So was this the same SS that completely rid Estonia of Jews by killing them or deporting them or is it a different unit? I get confused sometimes!

I believe you're right Wolster. These are not Waffen SS according to their uniform, they wear police collar tabs and insignia.

I believe you're right Wolster. These are not Waffen SS according to their uniform, they wear police collar tabs and insignia.
This is not usual Waffen SS, Hagen is right. This batallion has both police and military functions. Also they work with Jews and there are many facts.....

Here's another picture of Harald Nugiseks, note his 20th Waffen SS division collar tab. Mr Nugiseks is still alive and living in Estonia.
