The mystery ship had been partially uncovered by Hurricane Camille in 1969; and in 2000, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers identified it as a 20th century schooner from 1933 by the name of Rachel, which wrecked near Fort Morgan in 1933. The wreckage has some steel cable components, which would support its identity as the Rachel.
But no one can know for sure which vessel she actually is without proper excavation, or a definitive tell-tale sign such as the ships bell with a name on it. At this point, one can only hope that the vessel is properly excavated before another storm turns into an unwanted coffee table decoration for one of the many homes nearby.
