I'm researching a new novel set between midnight and dawn with the 101st Airborne Division and ran across this site looking up the Douve river bridges, the setting for the final chapter.

If you are interested, a summary of the book is at Missing Sticks.

I'm the man to come to on 3/506 on the night of D-Day, and I/506 about any other time. Let me know if you need help since I assume it was my posts that linked you to this site from google.

Anyone interested in reviewing the manuscript for techincal accuracy?

The characters and incidents are fiction, but I have tried to make them as realistic as possible within a fictional story line.

RE: Bridges - Anyone (Airchallenged) have a description of the bridges between Carentan and the Channel?

If you mean the two bridges at the Douve yes. This is from my own writing but is taken directly from the Regimental After Action Report and a few other sources (Ian Gardener's upcoming book on 3/506, and George K's excelent trilogy on the 101st):

Quote

The main objective of the Third Battalion was two bridges over the Douve River were wooden footbridges along with a ferry crossing that was located almost 4 kilometers up the river from Carentan. The first of the two bridges was a German built footbridge on the seaward side of the Douve River 250 meters down river from the ferry landing. The second bridge was a road bridge built between August and December of 1943 when the Germans realized that the footbridge was not enough to deal with all the traffic. The road bridge spanned the river 750 meters in land from the ferry landing. Two berms ran parallel to the river from a farm to the north of the footbridge all the way back to the road bridge.

:omg:The latest version of my document totally disappeared!!!! 20 pages lost!!!
