Re: What are you?

When I was linked to that quiz off another forum, I ended up in the Polish Army! When I was growing up, that army was ridiculed. After reading Rising '44, though, my attitude has changed remarkably.

Japan was last on my list.

Re: What are you?

I have a tie between Finland and United States as first choice. Russia and Japan are last on my list.

There are a lot of Frischbiertrinker (British) soldiers so far.
I think that all armies based on conscripts are a joke in todays world.
The only units of polish army which are well worth respect are professional.
Eg. GROM

GROM: Polish Special Forces - Above Top Secret Conspiracy Community

Petrified Truth: GROM

What is conscripted is not worth five cents.

Most of technical units, special forces, armoured etc. have large percentage of professional soldiers, however they still have percentage of conscripts.
This is partly for financial, partly for practical reason - it's nice to have conscript working in the kitchen and pay him peanuts, pro or private catering cost much more. I believe all this will gradually change.
If they really count money they will find that private catering is cheaper.
That having private security is cheaper than "more soldiers needed because of guards duties".
There are some discouraging signals from new DoD in Wrsaw. They would like to increase conscription, but I think it's impossible. Anyway more and more officers coming out after missions in Iraq, after training in US or other NATO countries and profile of the forces is changing. Old soviet way of thinking is definitely minor and on the way out.

Re: What are you?

In Austria only higher ranking Soldiers are professionals. The rest is drafted. A half a year of training.

Re: What are you?

I wonder what you would have to answer to be directed to the German Army.
