My Hometown...

This is probably of no interest to anybody, but I'll post it anyway.

This is the center of my hometown as it is now...

...and as it was two days after the Anschluss.

You can't imagine how hard it is to get pictures of my hometown from that time... It is not a very popular topic... What a surprise...

Re: My Hometown...

As much as I love a good military parade (and the Germans do those pretty damn well!), the town looks somewhat happier these days!

By all means, Klaus, if you can find more photos like that, post them. Then and Now shots are always interesting!

Danke!

I agree. I love a good parade, especially a military one. And then and now photos are always interesting. I lived in a small town in Massachusetts (population ~2800) and they did a town photo on the occasion of the town's "birthday (maybe 400?). They had a similar one from 50 years earlier and the difference between color and black and white made the emotion of the photo much different.

Here's the recent photo in black and white.

Klaus,

The two pics are extremely interesting when placed next to each other like that -- Thanks!

Re: My Hometown...

In 1938 Dornbirn had a estimated population of 25.000. The reason for the parade is that Dornbirn became Kreisleitung. Today we have about 44.840 people living in Dornbirn.

Someone else got now and then pictures? I'll try to find some other...

Re: My Hometown...

That's a good site. Some places a quite close to my Hometown. But has someone got some pictures from his/her Hometown?

Re: My Hometown...

Speaking of military parades, one ought to watch the footage of Hitler's birthday parade on April 20 1939. 60000 Landsers goose-stepping in those Waffenfrocks, dozens of Panzers and planes.. well, some members here are too late to view it for free unfortunately, as the place to download it from has shut down.
