HEck of a wake-up call!

I awoke this morning to go to work....only to be severely shaken by an EARTHQUAKE! We had a 5.4 at 4:37 am. It was wild! Fer a few moments I felt like I was back in Japan. Worst one I ever felt here on the Flatlands. Then at 10:15 we had an after shock of a 4.5. No real damage...just alot of Shakin' goin' on! They say we are still getting aftershaocks as I type....can feel the ripples

Re: HEck of a wake-up call!

I've only experienced one that I felt n' that was a meager 3.2 as they very seldom gets worse here in Sweden. But I can sure guess that it can get the brain a jumpstart in the mornin'. You're a helpless passenger when the big one comes. I remember the in store security cameras that filmed the one in Kobe to great effect n' can only say that I don't wish anyone to go through somethin' like that or worse.

Re: HEck of a wake-up call!

I've only felt one, back in 2002. I lived in Massachusetts and it was centered near Plattsburgh, NY (between Albany, NY and Montreal). It was a 5.1 but we felt it 150 or so miles away, only it was fairly short in duration and not much of a shake.

Glad you are all OK.

Re: HEck of a wake-up call!

I almost called you this evening, Chuck, to see how you were doing. Then I figured if it was bad, you didn't need me calling. If it was okay, you'd post.

Glad to hear it all worked out.

I felt a 4.8 or similar in the mid seventies that was centred under the Bass Strait which is the water between the mainland and Tasmania. Shook my wardrobe slightly for about six seconds...interesting.

I lived ini Southern California for 3 years, 1977-1980. I recall may earthquakes there. First one scared the p**p out of me. After that, earthquakes were or less just part of living in SOCAL.
