Braindead punks!

Thursday afternoon, my wife and a friend were driving home from lunch. They were on the busiest part of the local freeway, down a long grade that comes into town from the airport, during the early part of rush hour. Two *&%##* punks were racing down the hill and one of them clipped my wife's car, sending both cars out of control and into the guardrail. The second car fled the scene.

Thanks to seatbelts, airbags and good, solid german engineering, my wife was only shaken and bruised. She'll be sore for a while, but she's fine. Her passenger cracked her sternum and two ribs. Since she's visiting from Thailand, our insurance will take care of her medical costs. The car is a total loss. If not for the guardrail, they would have gone over a steep hill onto a state highway.

This morning my insurance agent found that the company the other driver gave to the police had never heard of the punk or his mother. Why am I not surprised? Still no word on the hit-and-runner.

When I was young and brainless, we would race our hot cars, but always at some remote location where the only ones in danger were ourselves. Nowadays, they seem to need the added thrill of weaving in and out of traffic. This is the second such incident in the area in the last few months.

I'm glad that your wife is OK though it sounds like her friend got the worst of it.

Thank goodness for crumple zones. Makes me glad I drive a Passat...

Ken, sorry to hear this Buddy and glad neither your wife nor her friend were not more seriously hurt.

Here's hoping these cretins are caught and have the book thrown at them.

I'm sorry to hear of the incident. I'm glad neither of the ladies was seriously injured. I've responded to enough similar incidents, that's for sure.

Please tell me that if they got insurance information, somebody got some ID on the vehicle?

My wife is sore and tired, but feeling much better today. Her friend is moving better also, if very carefully, and needs less of the pain pills they gave her.

The little shite that couldn't get away hit the barrier at an estimated 85mph, according to local reports. His car was totalled, too, and he was taken to the emergency room. The one that ran was in a white VW GTI and I don't know how much info they have on him.

I don't know how far to trust the media, however, since the TV news said that my wife's damage was from rear-ending the punk after he hit the barrier. The State Patrol told me that eye-witnesses said he clipped her and both hit the barrier. The first damage to her car was on the left rear bumper. The white VW may have also slightly hit our car as he fled. My daughter-in-law emailed us from Bellingham and said one report even identified my wife's car as one of the racers.

Not sure if anyone got a plate number, but the kid is in deep doo-doo. My daughter-in-law Gwen's son-in-law (convoluted family tree, no?) was a member of a VW club that tricked up cars when he lived in Spokane. He still has contacts and has them looking around. One thinks he might know the perp. Also Gwen's brother-in-law Dave is one of the top mechanics in the area and is going through his extensive contacts in the repair and body shop community.

I hope the punk can hear the tick-tock as his time runs out.
