Re: Is the Future Depressing?
Is it possible such a being exists somewhere in the world? Sure, why not.
There are new species being discovered all the time and others long thought extinct occasionally turn up. There are huge tracks of undeveloped land in North America and Northern Asia where whole communities could live undetected. As for around where I live, not so sure. We do have some large, heavily wooded areas where you can venture far enough to lose all sight and sound of man except for passing planes. We have had hunters with quads lost for years due to mishap before being found, and that's with intense searches for them in winter when the leaf canopy is gone. I read the accounts of what happened around here in the late 60s with such sightings, but I was not convinced. At least they did not have enough of a ring of truth to them that would make want to be Sasquatch wary. We do still get strange reports every so often, but usually the only phenomenon at play are metropolitan transplants new to the sticks who confuse big bear with Bigfoot. A year or so ago security from a nearby community spent the better part of the day chasing down reports of a light colored wolf "stalking" backyards. Turned out to be a Yellow Lab. The give a way was the florescent orange collar and name tag that read "Trixie". As a rule, wolves usually don't accessorize. I truly do believe such creatures could exist. I think it is arrogant to proclaim man the only bi-pedal on earth with enough intelligence to maintain stealth when need be. But I would like a bit more proof than the eyewitness account of some guy fresh from Queens who swears he saw a Yowie knock over his garbage cans.

Re: Is the Future Depressing?
To be sure, there are hundreds of websites dedicated to the subject of 'cryptozoology' and I usually think that if there's enough smoke, maybe there's a fire. They love to use the notion that these creatures are present in indigenous lore also. I'm not sure what I think except to say that I believe there is something going on but whether or not it's a large, stinky, bipedal creature that leaves huge footprints I can't say. To me, it's the same as the UFO thing. Too many people see stuff too often for it to be 'nothing' or a flock of birds (how stupid do you think I am?) or a 'lensing effect' (now I think you're stupid!). I myself have seen four strange lights and/or objects in the sky. Three times at night and once during the day. Each time with other witnesses. I saw something, but alien spacecraft..? Unlikely. There are those who claim that UFOs are busy abducting everybody or mutilating cattle...I've even read a few books about it. I'm pretty sure aliens probably exist, but flying about in disk shaped craft...? The physics is against it.

Re: Is the Future Depressing?
Well, Nick. I did some checking and I guess its nothing new in my area.
BFRO Report 14338: Old newspaper article (Titusville Morning Herald - Pennsylvania) about sightings near Orestimba Creek in the Diablo (Devil) Mountains
