Post Re: My Year in Iraq, by Paul Bremmer (audio)

Disk 4 is more like it Huyen, many items to discuss here, I'll start with these for now my dear.

1. That disaster of a first police force that Sanchez set up, then having it on the news that they have a healthy and valid Iraq police force all ready to go.... Then it was questioned by the media as to how it was still not helping anything over there as to looting and other related civil order isues. Bremmer called him on that one and found out he was recruiting 30,000 people in 30 days, given 3 weeks training and presto, insta (for show) native police force IE "see, the US is on top of things in getting things in order" type sentiment I bet!! No vetting and taking anyone who signed up is not a good thing, let alone 3 weeks of training, not good!!! But Paul and Gen Sanchez had a "meeting" and got it working a bit better after that, thoughts please?

2. Bremmers repeated comment on the "US government" still being a "blunt instrument" for these kinds of things he is trying to control here, I would agree to a certain extent, but the US picked Bremmer to run the show so they were not all bad, were'nt they....??

3. The first Iraqy interem goverment was not doing anything at all in Pauls estimation, I would agree, but I think if they had more experience, compared to Sadams rule, they might have done more. And maybe they needed more advisers over there than what they were supplied with??

Cheers
