Not sure if the soldat in the foreground was surrendering or wounded, but the Panzer IV in the background was out of the fight.

I don't know for sure, but I suspect that when you see a tank that mangled it is generally from an air attack. There is just not enough force in a tank round to split the vehicle in pieces and/or throw chunks around. Unless the ammo explodes, in which case it could get real ugly, but if that happened I would expect more pieces. Just speculating...

I'd say that this type of damage is more in line with a crewspiked n' abandoned vehicle. But that's just the way I see it.
