My guess is that the "underengineered" Soviet tanks lacked effective vision slits and periscopes for the Driver and Commanders. If you are lumbering along in a tank with poor vision slits, as you bounce around inside you can't really see where you're going. The end result is: Oooops! Crash! "What the hell happened?"

I looked at that photo pretty close. I think, clues to what is was are everywhere.

I'm gonna take a stab at this, seeing how it seems to be in the middle of no
where, i'm thinking a V-1 or maybe a V-2 rocket that missed london or something??

My thinking is that it was not so much the size of the weapon, but what the weapon struck.
