Re: Tiger I-One Tough Cat

Hm the first tiger is a tiger 1 mid production tiger of 3rd company LAH 101 SS. during the extensive trials at Amiens just before the Normandy invasion. It's interesting to note that the tiger still retains the tavel lock for the tigers gun barrel on the rear of the engine deck. This particular feature was seen on mid production tigers and is known as the fourth configuration seen on November 1943 production tigers. It was seen on and after chassis number 250653 until the February 1944 when this feature was deleated from the production run.

The second photo could very well be a tiger of the same unit and company cyberia. With out seeing the front glacis plate to see the unit emblem or more of the surrounding country side for identifying features it is just a guess, but i am very confident i am correct.

The last photo i am still researching so i will get back to you guys on that one

Cool LAH. That second one was a strangely cropped photo with little by way of clues.

Here's another I turned up. The caption info centered on the importance of muzzle covers, with no info on the vehicle or location.

Hm information is not easy for this tiger however, having a look at the features of the tiger it is an early version tiger 1. The features of the hull mainly the tow shackle area with the december 1942 configuration dates the hull at that time. It is also worthy to note there are a full complimet of s-mine launchers and the slight shapes of the feifel aircleaners on the back of the tiger. The turret is the second version turret produced after may 43 note the lack of s-mine chargers and the track links stored on the side of the turret as seen in this production turret. Another interesting feature (and i had to look twice to be sure) is the gun mantlet. This mantlet was actually produced by the krupp factory. This design was supposed to be for the porsche tiger p however, was later used on the tiger 1. Taking a look at the condition of the tiger and the fact that all crew are visisble im assuming early war with german air supremacy being the key point. this could very well be a company on training

AH cyberia a nice easy one for me. This lovely little gem is tiger 311 of the 3rd company of Heavy tiger battalion 502 in Russia. The tiger had a colour scheme of dark yellow with fine lines of olive green sprayed over the base coat. The numbers were solid black and even though you can't see it there should be the outline of an elephant on the drivers side glacis plate which was the unts emblem

The first tiger is a mid production you can just make out the cast cupola on the turret roof. These two tigers are from the 502 heavy tank battalion in Russia. Sorry i cant make out the numbers of the tiger to tell you what number the vehicle is.
