im actually going to correct myself it wasnt on a railway wagon sorry for the misinformation this photo shows the tiger h1 still with transport tracks fitted being delivered to 1 kompani 501 battalion in tunis decmber 1942 hope you enjoy

Muzzle brake was painted out for some reason, (remember the Tiger was still a new weapon at this time). The AFRIKAKORPS.ORG site has this photo and the next shot likely taken a short time after has the brake on with the bag over it.

hm just learnt something new then will have to have a look at this site thanks for pointing out the existence of a second photo with the cover on the muzzle brake.........





have just found the site damn good history there of 501 thanks panzerbob

I can't take credit Gothard Heinrici posted the link earlier in this thread, It is however an excellent site on many facets of the North African Campaign.

Be warned however these guys have copyright issues.

The muzzle brakes were airbrushed out to make Allied intelligence think it carried a low velocity gun. Some say it worked and some say otherwise.

the first photo i cant date but the second one i can thats actually a tiger of the 2nd company 101 ss lah panzerdivision. they are advancing on n316 to morgney days before wittmanns famous battle at villers bocage this is just one of the many i have in regards to 101 ss and wittmann sorry i am a nut when it comes to this stuff

just a further edit to the 2nd picture the vehicle was numbered 224 and commmanded by Uscha. Molly it is stopped behind 223, 222 and 221 because of a breakdown of another tiger supposedly 214
