Like many people, I have been in that very spot, and "only" about 30 years after the war had ended. It would have been hard to imagine...

Re: Growl of the Panther Tank

Camouflaging a Panther for ambush in a mostly open field in Eastern Russia was not easy, though not impossible.

Great photos, though I don't think that was Eastern Russia.

You're right, Jim.

Western, dammit, western.

Not sure that was an innocent mistake, or wishful thinking.

Good one! Check out the extra gear hanging from the turret. Very cool.

Also check out the bag over the muzzle which indicates they must be in a somewhat safe area.

Re: Growl of the Panther Tank

Fairly well known picture of a early Panther G. According to the book "Panzer Tactics" by Wolfgang Schneider, this picture was taken by war reporter Hermann and was captioned; "Goldap is once again in German hands. In an energetic attack, German armored formations have torn the East Prussian city of Goldap from the Soviets". In this picture the Panther has reached the edge of the city and covers against new Soviet attacks.

Note "Ambush" camoflage scheme.
