Also note the positions of the road wheels. See how they are not level with the tank body, as indicated by the position of the central hub? This is an example of how good the torsion bar suspension was on the Panther. The tank body is level even though the weight is not evenly distributed along the track length. This is a subtle detail that is much more obvious in a motion picture, but it is evident here in this still shot.

Keep 'em coming Cyberia!

Re: Growl of the Panther Tank

The Panther G model had a modified "mantlet" (the armor where the gun meets the turret). The rounded mantlet on the D and A models caused shots to deflect down on the top armor and into the turret ring. The G model has an extended lower "lip" to prevent this from happening. This is also a good ID tag, although I'm not sure all the G models had this turret type.

Good shots from the Aberdeen Proving Ground here:

P-D, how long it take for them to make that change? A shot in the turret ring can really ruin your day.

Just a guess, but with that kind of damage you might become a "JagPanther" instead of a repaired Panther...

Re: Growl of the Panther Tank

The modified mantlet with the chin on late Ausf. G's wasn't installed on all late G's even after it was introduced. For example, the all steel wheel Ausf. G's did have the old mantlet.

Re: Growl of the Panther Tank

Well at least that one has a good paint job, most of the museum ones, just don't seem to have the right paint job.

Wow! We were looking for a good shot of those dampers last week. Nice, Hagen, very nice.
