Biała Podlaska is in Eastern Poland and was in the eastern most part of the General Government. It changed hands from Polish to German to Soviet to German again in September-October 1939 as Germany and the Soviet Union settled the partition lines. Zamosc, to the east of Biała Podlaska also underwent several changes of hands at that time.

In the second photo, those women are the ones looking hungry. If food is changing hands, they are more likely to be the ones receiving it I would think.

Judging from the sign this photograph was taken in Gercka, Albania




Again, using the sign as an indicator this photo was taken either in Russia or Russian occupied Poland

I'm going to disagree with that statement, Paul.

If you look closely at the sign, you'll note that it says General d. Inf. Gercke. I'm not familiar with the Herr General, but his lads named a bridge after him, so he must have been alright!
