Re: Reichsbahn Photos-Who, What, Where and When?

The MAn with his back to camera, carrying Box and the one in train doorway, and 2 men facing the camera do NOT have German style greatcoats... they look Russian due to the fact the Russians used a clasp rather than buttons in some of their coats....I am not sure what the Italian great coats looked like.....IT is possible they are Italians. I was going by the style of greatcoats. Just wanted to put forth a theory that they could be Hiwis too. Maybe one of our uniform experts will step up and knows what an Italian Greatcoat looks like??? Hmmm????

Now that I look again....the hats don't look Russian....

Oh Okay, those guys. I thought you meant the two waiting track side.

I also thought they might be prisoners at first, then I noticed the smiles, lack of guards and one has a small beard, very much like the kind I have seen on Italian soldiers.

So my guess would be Italian. But really, anything is possible.

I'm thinking they might be Hungarian or Romanian troops. They somehow seem too well equipped for the cold to be Italians...

Re: Reichsbahn Photos-Who, What, Where and When?

I thought they might be Romanian too but I'm guessing.
What was the German 'date protocol' at the time. mm/dd/yy or dd/mm/yy?
Down here we use dd/mm/yy. I usually 'translate' to the American form here.
Those loco pics are great. Trumpeter has a 1/35 Kriegsloco kit and Eduard has no fewer than four sets of brass for it...I'm salivating just typing this.
Peace.

Germans were and are dd/mm/yy.

I know, Geek, and it looks like a good one. Right now the price over here is around $125, in about six months or so it should drop down to about $60 and I might grab it.

Here's a few more Kriegslocomotive shots from the collection...

As with many of these photos, dates and locations unknown.

Re: Reichsbahn Photos-Who, What, Where and When?

I've only seen it once in the shop (somebody snapped it up) for around the same price and the Eduard sets are similarly priced...each!!! There was a member at the other site who stopped posting before you joined Paul, he had built it and he posted a couple of pics. It looks impressive size-wise. I'll have to see if I can dig out some pics from a magazine I have. It's a loco and is in my top five 'models by other people'. Thanks for the pics mate.

No doubt this photo was Ost Front with a captured Soviet engine in the background
