Re: What's been buried can be recovered.

There's 40 PzIV n' 10 StuG III that goes on the block n' the starting bid is 50,000 € for an escavated one n' 25,000 € for a still buried panzer. The Jagdpanzer IV L/48 of wich they've just found one isn't goin' on the block but is destined for a museum.

Re: What's been buried can be recovered.

Now why would they bury 7 tank hulls? Were they found in 1 location or all over and just brought to one location for the auction?
Engines were all removed but all the turrets were still attached. Were they stationary pillboxes and just burried after the war?

Too many questions....mind is going into overdrive/shut down mode.

They were buried as a defenceline at the border.

Re: What's been buried can be recovered.

I have just read there are 97(!!!) of them altogether. I wonder if the engines were removed for extra ammo storage? If so, I guess the firewalls wiil be gone.

Re: What's been buried can be recovered.

I'm wondering if the burial of old tanks for use as bunkers doesn't point to the desperation and scarcity of some basic stuff for the Germans at the time. I've seen models of similar things but usually an old Panther shell in an urban setting. No fuel, no industry...you name it. Just a thought...cool pic huh?
