Re: Panzerkampfwagen IV-Medium Tank

While this is not a place to debate "the best tank of WWII". I will "Tell You" that the Panzer IV was the best tank of WWII. The design was so robust it lasted from before the first battle to the last and even beyond WWII. No other tank can make that claim. It also had dozens of variants (SP Guns, Flak, etc.) beside the basic models from Ausf A-H. When you start with a good thing, you can use it for the basis of better things. That's what the Panzer IV was, a good thing. In every battle on every front in WWII, a Panzer IV was holding the line and doing it well.

In the last two pics you can see the two ends of the evolution of the Panzer IV.

Absolutely...

Syria Panzer IV

This Panzer IV was built for the German front lines in the late 1940s, purchased by Syria from the Russians in the early 1950s, and captured in battle by the Israelis during the Six Days War in 1967.

Why a drawing of a boat on a Panzer?
Because they didn't have a kill ring for destroyers

On May 23, 1940 the crew of this Panzer IV engaged a British destroyer in a harbor at Boulogne, France. A firefight between tank and ship ensued and the Panzer came out on top by sinking the vessel.

Quite a feat, I'll get back to you on that, I seem to recall that claim was propaganda.

As well there is certainly room to debate

. You should start such a tread maybe BEST ALL AROUND TANK IN WWII, it would certainly get the Shermanphiles attention.

Pirate-Drakk, It's the best Ive been able to do with that picture you
wouldn't have a HI RES copy. It always looks good as my wallpaper with Panzerlied playing to accompany it.

Please do. I have heard the story both as true, and as propaganda, but this is the first time I saw any photo associated with it.

Re: Panzerkampfwagen IV-Medium Tank

Remember that the steel hull on a destroyer was quite thin n' that even a KwK 37 L/24 could penetrate it. The main protection for a destroyer was speed n' manuverability of which the destroyer wouldn't have in a harbour.

If I can figure out where the picture is (I can think of about 3 dozen books that shot might be in) and can find a scanner I'll post it and send you a copy. That would be a great wallpaper!
