As for your statement on armor ID couldn't agree with you more, and even more so when mostly hidden behind armor plates (shurzen). I also agree whole heartedly on your ID of the 2nd Panzer Division Panzer IV H. Second panzer had been sent to France earlier in 1944 for rest and refitting after being pretty well mauled in the east.

The photo of Panzer #615 is another Panzer IVH of 12th SS. Hitlerjugend was well known for putting the names of their sweethearts on their tanks. Wilma on the cupola and Paula is written on the drivers visor. Almost as sure a giveaway as U-boats leathers.

It sure shows along many other early war pictures why proper turret bins finally became standard fit.
