P-D, any idea where it might have been taken?

I have that pic in a book of mine, but a quick look produced nothing. I'll keep an eye open...

On May 23, 1940 the crew of this Panzer IV engaged a British destroyer in a harbor at Boulogne, France. A firefight between tank and ship ensued and the Panzer came out on top by sinking the vessel.
Even if Destroyers have thin armor remember this that destroyers have better range with thiere guns that make the Panzer IV's seem puny. So even though that might not have had a impact but remember destroyers guns arn't As accurate to hit somthing that is the size of a tank so it makes sense.
Either way amazing.

Some panzertruppen pipe dream, and of course it makes good propaganda as well, so the story gets spread. I've seen this story on and off over the years. I'd like to see a 7.5cm pop gun stare down a 3" or 5" destroyer main battery, I used to watch our 5" gun on my destroyer toss armoured vehicles we'd hit in the air.
Panzer Bob from the unmentionable place!

IIRC this story is part myth, part reality and large chunk of propaganda. There were engagements between Panzer IV's and Destroyers but the out come was not a sunken ship. At least not from the engagements. I've found references to at least 3 such engagements. One the Destroyer did not receive any damage from the Panzers and ran them off. The other two did receive hits from the Panzers but were not sunk and withdrew in good order. Granted, Both ships were sunk latter one by a mine and one by air attack.

I'm sure it seemed to the Panzer crew in the picture that they had sunk the ship, however, I'm extremely possible it's propaganda value was higher than any truth to the matter. Several hits on the superstructure of a warship even a Destroyer does not constitute a sunk ship.

My book claims the crew sunk a "steam ship" what ever that might be. Doesn't sound like a "modern" destroyer.

That probably explains the type of drawing done by the crew. Chances are they were being honest about it and propaganda took over from there.
Yes it sure may at that, and to be fair it is another picture of the same "kill" marking. Apparently, the war diary of the unit claims a ship sunk, with a picture of the ship and it's not even the same ship engaged. But I have not seen this with my own eyes. The Tin Can Man in me says this sinking is not possible, hits yes, damage for sure, SUNK no! IMHO of course.
