hm panzer lehr division if i remember rightly plus if im wrong i aplogise but isnt that the panzer iv that was knocked out in villers bocage when wittmann made a second attack after his first historical attack

Shouldn't an Ausf. J only have three return rollers?
The three rollers in front of the last one is indeed of the late steel version while the last one indeed is an early rubber rimmed one.

mcoy is right it is a panzer IV h the IV j came out with three return rollers in steel like the first three pictured on the tank and yes it is a panzer lehr division panzer knocked out at villers bocage its a vehicle of the 6th company, 2nd battalion the sheild on the turret schurzen is a red and white sheild which belonged to the co of the battalion prince schoenburg-waldenburgwhom was killed on the 11/6/44. this sheild was visisble on all lehr vehicles until the end of the war

The Panzer IVJ Late had three return rollers, the early still had four. The late model also had vertical exhausts. See my earlier post in this thread, first page.
Ausf. J (1944-1945, 1758 produced): Turret traverse engine replaced with an extra fuel tank. Later Ausf. Js had simplified vertical exhaust mufflers and the use of 3 instead of 4 track return rollers. Very late Ausf. J's used wire mesh side-skirts (Drahtgeflecht Schürzen) in place of solid metal plates to conserve strategic materials and reduce overall weight. Last edited by Hagen; May 3rd, 2008 at 08:25 PM. |
