Yes sir, planned for desert warfare they put a fan on at the rear to push this reconnaissance vehicle along.

Can anyone guess why it did not work as well in reality as it did on paper?
It was very loud and made a huge dust cloud behind it. Both bad things for a recon unit.

In N. Afrika Rommel used a similar concept where they strapped aircraft engines on the backs of trucks(?). The idea was to create huge dust clouds to confuse the Allies. They would assume the dust was caused by large units moving into position, not just a few trucks with propellers.

The ruse worked!

Right you are P-D. The dust cloud could be seen for miles.

How about this little gem from Denmark...

53 mm quick-firing gun in mobile turret

Hardly practical but used in the fortifications of Copenhagen. Does not appear to have been motorized, which leads to some interesting questions. Might have been First World War if not earlier.

How loud was that gun when it went off right next to the operators head inside a can! Ouch!

OK, not a monster truck show...

...but this high ridin' Sherman was America's first stab at a mine clearing tank.

Can't imagine why they didn't pursue this.

I don't know. I can't take my eyes off the wheels.

Re: Stranger Than Fiction Armor

I don't know about these...

Caption says these are early British armored cars, but I think these look like a rip off from the 1930s Flash Gordon movies.

What do you think?

I have had this pic on file for a couple years. The file name is "viking.jpg" from where ever I found it. I vaguely recall this was supposed to be some armored car from Belgium or another minor country. However, that info was not from a reputable source.

This is a VERY KEWL pic! I love that shape. However, it could be HollyWood for all I know. Fun none the less!
