Nice thread and pics C.W., I bet the most feared and well known term known near and far, for all the Allied troops that faced the 88, besides the "Tiger".
One of my current interests is their capacity to be used as artillery in WW II, any thoughts on this, as to how effective it was? And how common was it really to be used in this aspect and maybe what fronts,battles it was most commonly used as well? Was it just the lack of dedicated arty field pieces,or something else.... Well, I've to remind you that it wasn't the Germans that did the development of it but it was Bofors that did it. Allthough it was done in cooperation with Krupp by request by the Germans. This was mainly in order to get 'round the regulations in the Versailles treaty. So it's really a Swedish gun in the beginnin'.

You're thinkin' 'bout the Geschütze 8.8 Kw Flak from 1917. It's only the caliber that's the same as the FlaK 18 that was developed in Sweden in 1928 n' it's successor the FlaK 36.
