Re: german camouflage
Thanks!
So long this thread deals with German camouflage on AFV's it's in the right place. But if it comes down later on to paintin' techniques n' tricks for modellin' said patterns I'd rather see a separate thread in the modellin' section. Carry on mate!

Re: german camouflage
Good stuff LAH. I think technique also depended on crew and heres a few caes in point...
These two 251s were from the same unit... ![]() A sort of slap the white wash brush against the vehicle method ![]() This crew on the other hand seemed to prefer a "basket weave" pattern ![]() Then we have the unusual polka dot Pak

Nice pics guys, was'nt there some kind of basic "theme" like that a lot of the times there was just not enough materials to really do the camo paint up the "correct" German high command way?
Also, did the armour commanders ride the crews of their vehicles if there were supplies readily available and they did not use it to full advantage? Cheers, I have many question here, but I will start with these, for now!! ![]() Tom |

Re: german camouflage
yes there were orders from the high command in regards to the camouflage of all german vehicles how the paint supplies were utilised and the way they were camouflaged was left up to the unit commanders. individual unit,s painted there vehicles differently and the commanders dictated how the were painted due to the theatres of operation ie some colours were used more heavily than others. as the war progressed any camouflaging was undertaken rigourously by commanders it was a matter of survival also dont forget dwindling supplies didnt help the crews at all and captured paint was often used as well
