Re: Where is this picture taken????
Off the top of my head, I'd guess Poland. That guess is solely based on the white cross. After the Polish campaign, the Germans recognized what a great aiming point the white cross made, and started changing them.

Re: Where is this picture taken????
I concur Tom. I'm unsure if they used the white cross in France but my feeling is that they didn't. Keep in mind that German armour isn't my forte though.
Nice to see you Phil. Hope all's well.

Re: Where is this picture taken????
My thoughts as well Tom...I thought Poland but I am sure I have seen the odd picture of panzers rolling through France with the odd solid white cross also but too be honest I never seen one in 1940 with a white cross painted on the front like this one. Do you agree a Pz IV Ausf D..........

Re: Where is this picture taken????
Hey G44.....yeah all is well here. Been very quiet of late. Cause.... buying a home. So late in life but after I lost one in a divorce two years ago I never thought I would be buying again so soon. Great thing but a bit of a worry when I am changing jobs. Hope to be back in action with the model forum very soon.

Re: Where is this picture taken????
There's no hard and fast rule I'm aware of that forbade the white crosses in France. Of course, were I the poor slob sitting up front, I'd buy the paint meself to modify that cross!
It could be France, but I'd put my money on Poland. I'm not going to commit to the model of the Pz. IV. I know it's a IV, but I don't have any references handy to determine which model. I'm not good enough to try without 'em! |

Re: Where is this picture taken????
I find it very likely that this PzKpfw IV Ausf. C is photographed durin' the Polish campaign. By the time for the campaign in France n' Benelux the Ausf. C was more or less outphased n' replaced with Ausf. D.

Quote:
I've seen at least one vehicle (German AC posted by Cyberia) that had the white cross and was claimed to be in France but it might have been on the French border during the Polish invasion for all I know. In any case, I would say it's at least a 98% chance that this is Poland or at least from the Polish campaign.

Re: Where is this picture taken????
Thanks for all the input guys...I too believe its Poland but the PzIV is not an Ausf A....check the commanders cupola...this shape (hard to distinguish but still can be seen) come out on the B and onwards. The A had a more cylindrical hatch.
