All Russian writing removed!?!?!?!? Sounds a bit like the Taliban blowing up the ancient Buddhist statues in Afghanistan. I believe we should preserve history.

Several surviving American veterans of the Aleutian Islands campaign were
vehemently opposed to the Japanese erecting this monument, even though it was dedicated to both sides.
