Re: War Cemeteries

I know it's from WW1 but I thought this is a good place to post this.

In Flanders Fields
By: Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918)
Canadian Army
IN FLANDERS FIELDS the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Re: War Cemeteries

My old mate Leatchy, who some of you may know also, is in Europe as I type. Last week he sent me a photo of the monastery at Monte Cassino taken from the car park, then he phoned me. It's relevance here? Absolutely none. But he is emailing me a photo of Michael Wittmann's grave...I'll post it when he does.

Bill, in my humble opinion this piece is timeless. A good place to post it!

I know I have posted it before but here is my Great Uncles grave. Buried with the rest of his crew.

Re: War Cemeteries

A little biased maybe but here is Gradara War Cemetery in Italy. Below that is a photo of my uncles grave taken in 1999 by a great veteran who is no longer with us.
