These are both fairly famous photos made by photographer W. Eugene Smith. The second one actually appeared on a US postage stamp in 2002.

Not only the child's face, but the fact that there is no inkling of which side they are from....This pic is universal. This one, and many more posted here will be used in my classroom next year. Many thanks to all the posters.

Recently liberated from a slave labor camp by the 13th Armored Division, Russian women place flowers at the feet of American soldiers killed in the fighting.
