Actually a pretty slow week for me since I started my home time on Thrus. Was real lucky with the weather though.

What is UP with the weather this year...man, it's just ugly! Of course, my employer won't allow us to use the words "Global Warming"...opting instead for the PC'd version of Climate Change.

Ohh wait, the doorbell just rang....be right back.....

Dunno mate. Odd weather here too. Our 'fire season' usually lasts for three or four months. This year, we only had maybe seven days of weather over 30C. Usually, we have at least 30. Adelaide had 13 days of weather over 43C (that's 100F folks...bloody HOT by anybody's standards). Last few days have been foggy and soggy with rain. Today, I thought I felt a snowy nip in the air and it's still the first month of Autumn. My relatives in Finland also report a very mild winter without much snow. Now THAT's odd.
We have days when the Fire Authority declares 'Total Fire Ban'. They break the state up into six parts and they can ban one, some or all of them. That means no burning leaves, no outside barbecues no fires. The penalty is prison and big fines. This year, we've had only three such days. It's just the price we pay for living in highly flammable eucalyptus forests. There's also a fire-bug trying his best for the last two years. We see his handywork everywhere, maybe 100 square feet of burnt bush. The volunteer fire brigades are a real bunch of professionals.

Yeah, I'm hearing those kind of stories a lot. My wife works for a top level scientist, and that topic is about all he deals with nowadays...which says a lot. Scarry S**T!

Re: Dr. Shigeyuki's Snow Tiger

It sure is. There are three 'big' environmental issues going on locally here...I mean in the south-east when I say 'local'. They're planning a desalination plant, they're building a pulp-mill and they're dredging our bay. We are already suffering a water crisis down here. It's illegal to water the garden except on one night each week and it must be done by hand...no hose. we don't flush our toilets every time anymore.
People have taken to the streets to protest all three of these projects but the state governments don't care. The de-sal plant and the pulp-mill threaten forests ie. trees and the dredging...well, you do the math on that. It's all about money. It takes my breath away that we tolerate the kinds of politicians that we do...ones that don't listen to what ordinary people think is important but just think it's all about wealth. As the saying goes; 'There are no jobs on a dead world'. The pulp-mill is for grinding up old-growth forest to make (expletive) PAPER!!!
What am I going to tell my kids?
