I like the 'field painted' stripe and number as well as the way the track folds on the rough ground. Those figures are something to work towards too.

I agree MAGNA, I think those are the best "faces" he's turned out so far. Very expressive with very nice colour and shading.

I know it's been said but this fellow's attention to the smallest details is mind boggling. The faces on those men tell a story by themselves.

Holy cats! Love this one!!!!! Are buildings like that typically scratchbuilt, or prefab?

Re: Shige's JS2

You can get prefab buildings from a variety of manufacturers for a variety of periods. They stick out a mile if you've seen a couple done before. If I was a diorama builder, I'd probably take the time to learn how to make my own, that way, I would have something unique each time. It also allows you to make the scenery to 'fit' with the model rather than the other way around.

I agree, making your own (any structure) is the way to go, then you can build it like you want it, not stuck to what the manufacturer thinks you need.

Re: Shige's JS2

I agree with the scratchbuilt theory! I feel the model railroading scenery can stick out like a sore thumb, as well, and would prefer scratchbuilding in that arena, as well.

Man, if my wife saw my work area look like that, I'd be sleeping on the couch for a year!
