Re: Guru's
A genius for sure along with the other erstwhile modellers named. Shep Paine's work is so quick too as he generally had seven days to do those Monogram ones before they were due to go into production.
His other work is also inspiring. I like Steve Zaloga's work on AFV's as well, not to mention Lufttiger's masterpieces too. We are lucky to have people like him here. Tony Greenland is someone whose work I don't remember seeing. Are there any pics available ? |

Re: Guru's
For an 'old' guy, I'm a little more new-school. I loved Verlinden and I still have a few of his books. They're not very informative though and often badly written and translated. The pictures make them worthwhile. I still think Verlinden does the best aircraft I've ever seen.
Lately, thanks to Razorboy, I've been exposed to Shige and Kunihito's amazing work. I've learned a lot from Mig Jimenez but I prefer the more 'scientific' approach of guys like Mirko Bayerl. Mig is a painter in my opinion. A bit more 'artsy'. Shep Paine has barely entered my world. He's mostly just a guy I've heard of.

Re: Guru's
The last two are Mirko's work aren't they? Certainly the King is.
To my eye, the Panzer III is Mig to a tee. That King Tiger and Panther appear in 'The Nordic Edge Model Gallery' book about Swedish modellers. Thanks for the pics mate...I'm enjoying them whoever built 'em.

Re: Guru's
I've always been a Shep Payne "Disciple". Meaning one who follows the Shepard Payne discipline. The Verlinden discipline is visibly different, for example, Lufttiger is a Verlinden "Guy". It's visible in his washes and weathering techniques, even the final photo technique. Lately I'm fast becoming a "Shige Guy" ..... that dude rules! He and Kunihitosan are my heros in this millenium, though I owe my style to Shepard Payne.

Re: Guru's
I like to appreciate the work of everybody I see. My thinking is that there's always something to learn...even from those who may be less experienced than myself. I'd call myself a bit of a 'Borg' modeller (one for the Trekkies). I live to assimilate everything I can. But I have to agree with Razorboy, Shige and Kunihito are awesome artists. If ever Shige puts a book out, I'll be getting it.

Re: Guru's
His colours stand out for me. I really like them. I try to collect the 'Euromilitaire' issue of 'Military In Scale' whenever I can. There's always mouth watering stuff to be seen.
