Shige's Sturmtiger
Another beast from the Good Doctor Shige (I wonder where he earned his Phd.?). I don't know a lot about this vehicle. I believe the main weapon was more of a Mörser (mortar) than a 'direct fire' gun. I love the colours this guy uses.
Anyway, enjoy! Shige sturmtiger 1.jpg Shige Sturmtiger 2.jpg Shige Sturmtiger 3.jpg Shige Sturmtiger 4.jpg

Re: Shige's Sturmtiger
My understanding (which might be incorrect) is that when loaded, the projectile tip stood visible in the muzzle of the weapon and that gasses were ejected through the holes which can be seen surrounding the muzzle itself. I've seen photos of this vehicle showing zimmerit on the hull but not on the fighting compartment. This is evident on the model as well. Perhaps this points to old Tiger chassis being used in the construction of 'new' Stürmtigers.

Re: Shige's Sturmtiger
Interesting. I note that the barrel is rifled. I guess the ammo was HE or incendiary?

Re: Shige's Sturmtiger
Wow, and interesting beast indeed. I have never seen this one before, and I'm not real sure I understand it's purpose, fully. Reminds me a lot of a mortar, so I see where you're coming from G-man; rocket propelled grenades? Man, didn't see that coming!

Re: Shige's Sturmtiger
I understand this vehicle came about after lessons learned at Stalingrad. They were basically reworked Tiger 1 chassis with the new fighting compartment added. The chassis utilized were'nt specially built for this and were often recycled tanks. The weapon is for the destruction of buildings and fortifications. My reading on this is very limited.

Re: Shige's Sturmtiger
Have a look at this MPG and you will get an idea of what a Sturmtiger was for.
The 380mm size is the same diameter as a 15" naval shell though not as heavy (I think). The last shot of it firing shows the shell leaving. Interesting beast. |

Re: Shige's Sturmtiger
Now that you mention it, I can see the Tiger chassis...hadn't readily noticed that!
