Re: Tips and helpful suggestions
Heh...different generation, is as good a reasoning factor as any. "Green", and other environmental "issues" were pretty low on their priority list. Recycling to them was throwing the cat out for the night for it's evening pooper!

Re: Tips and helpful suggestions
Alright, let's see if I can do this proper-like...
First of all, in an effort to use a rattle can to paint a hull, without painting my hands (I know, rubber gloves, but this is less banal), I came up with a brainstorm. All it takes is a couple of coathangers! All you need do is cut the bottom transverse off, bend it apropriately with some pliers so the ends are offset 90 degrees, and you're in. And the hanging hooks are built in! The first one is for the hull. What's really neat is that it takes advantage of the usual notches for fitting the turret. The second one is for the turret. This one you'll have to hold, but it's still neater. |

Re: Tips and helpful suggestions
Some time ago, I mentioned a method for painting eyes. Well, here are some less than stellar photos in an attempt to illustrate what I was talking about.
Step one is to just paint the eye area white. No neatness worries here. Second is to add a thin stripe of the iris color. Here's where you can make the guy look around if you want. You just need to make sure that both eyes are "looking" the same way. When that's done and dried, you just paint your flesh color right up to the eyes. Take care around the nose. This can be sticky. If you need a wide-eyed look, this is where you can make it, or squinty or normal. |

Re: Tips and helpful suggestions
I've always done eyes 'backwards'. I paint the entire face first and then do the eyes. They're always the hardest part to paint so I'd hate to get flesh color in them and have to do it again. I usually paint my white first and then use a 5/0 brush to do the pupils. The hard part is making sure they don't look 'Popeyed'.
To make it somewhat easier, do the left one first since it will be easier to match up the right one to it, unless your left handed.....

Re: Tips and helpful suggestions
One of the good things about this method is that it will do away with the popeyed look. By painting the fleshtone right up to the eyelids, you cut the white down just to the whites of the eyes. I think that's the thing I like best about it.
