Re: Camouflage of Panther F etc.

Excellent pics LAH, thanks for posting 'em. I just love the look of the running gear on both vehicles. To my eyes, there's a nice commonality between vehicles and their track line. The sag makes it for me.

Those are sweet pics indeed! I love the Panther as well...a beautiful tank that's always held a special place for me.

Re: Camouflage of Panther F etc.

It just seems more 'refined' in design than the Tiger 1. All those vertical surfaces...seems strange though that the designers took so long to change the mantlet on the Panther to eliminate a pretty obvious shot-trap. Of course I say 'obvious'. I never noticed it until I read about why they added the 'chin' on the 'G' model mantlets.

Hey don't get me wrong...I like the 'brutish' look of the Tiger too...it's just an older design. But then the Tiger II arrived...they look totally unrelated to me.

Re: Camouflage of Panther F etc.

I originally liked the Panther so much better than the Tiger, and the more I read about them, the better I like them. Tigers are pretty col though...brutish is a very apt description!

Re: Camouflage of Panther F etc.

Hi guys,
thanks for so many answers. I know a bit about German camouflage in general and why I am asking is - I understand that there are principally 4 (maybe 5 ?) colors, which could be used as a primers (without to complicated discussions about tones – dark yellow, olive green, red oxide, even dark grey, maybe red brown?). It is clear that there was probably anything possible (and the end of the war), but what is the most appropriate?

Available BW photo (I mean those I have found) of E-100 body shows it in one color camo. Is it yellow, green, red? And was there any turret completed?
Color photo of Panther F shows a hall full of bodies (I hope it is the F) and it looks either on green, or yellow base color.
BW photos of Panther F turrets show it either in one color (which one?) or in 2-3 color scheme - which colors are these (probably yellow, green, brown), but which one is the base color (looks like green)?
PzBeobWg V – I could not find enough good photos showing it (some sources say that there were even around 40 of them built – is it right? Were they really used in combat?). Does anybody have some photos of them?

I would like to build models of them – that is why I am asking.

oto
