Camouflage of Panther F etc.

Does anybody know about some details about really used colors of camouflages of the Panther F, the PzBeobWg V and the E-100?

The most used colors? Boy, have you come to the right place! Lot of guys here are very knowledgeable on armor here, so keep checking back. I wouldn't even try to answer that one myself. And hey, Welcome to the Zone mate!

Re: Camouflage of Panther F etc.

Not sure about the specific vehicles you mentioned but I assume they were the same colours as most later German vehicles. I'm not sure what your existing knowledge is, but basically, these vehicles had a 'dunkelgelb' (dark yellow) base coat with red-brown and green camouflage applied in all manner of various patterns and even tones. Sometimes the vehicles were only dark yellow and green or dark yellow and red-brown...or all three. Colours were applied with a spray gun or a brush or even rags. The colours themselves existed as solid blocks of pigment and could be made into paint by adding either water or fuel. This gave different tones so you have plenty of scope to still remain accurate. Some finishes were apllied in the factory and some in the field. Factory finishes tended toward uniformity but field applied schemes could be anything...literally anything.
From the modeller's perspective, there are several manufacturers that make accurate paint colours straight from the jar. Tamiya is a good example as it's available almost everywhere and their colours are fairly good. I'm sure if you visit you local hobby shop and ask this question, they can steer you towards something reasonable. Hope this helps mate and welcome.
Peace.

I'd use red oxide primer as the basecoat on the Panther F n' E-100 considerin' that these prototypes wasn't built. n' would have had the primer as basecoat if they would have been built. On the PzBeobWg V you're more free but use dunkelgelb as the basecoat there n' if you want a camopattern you could use dunkelgrün n' rottebraun for the pattern but I'd leave it just dunkelgelb.

Re: Camouflage of Panther F etc.

mccoy has hit the nail on the head these vehicles saw very little or no action at all. paint supplies were very short at the end of the war you could use the red oxide primer on the vehicle definately however the actual base coat could be dark yellow or dark grey there also was some research that showed that gark green was also used as a base coat as well. alot of veicles that were built late in the war eg early 45 possibly never recieved camouflage at all such was the rush to get the vehicles in to use. from late 44 the use of elaborate camouflage was seen on german vehicles various ambush schemes were used and the three coulors schemes as well alot of the three tone schemes were hard edged and clearly defined . hope this helps

Re: Camouflage of Panther F etc.

And I guess you have to decide how much weathering you care to depict on the model...which would usually require your lighten up the paint a tad...well, more than a tad, fo my tastes. I did a panther with Tamiya Acrylics, brushed, and I found I wasn't happy with the colors right out of the jar...they were too dark, and didn't look quite right to me; so I ended up mixing lighter versions of the colors, yet maintained some darks as well, mostly on some areas that wouldn't have seen a lot of sun or exposure. Just a thought.

Not exactly what you were asking about but here's a pic of the camo scheme on a Maus. Got at least two, possibly three colors, some of the 'stripes' look a little darker.
