Leaves for dioramas.

During last summer, i was sitting in my car when i noticed loads of little tiny leaves on the windscreen. on closer inspection, they looked like the perfect scale for 1:35 dioramas. i thought it would be ideal to incorporate them in a diorama.

here is a step by step of what i've done.

I found out the tiny leaves were from the seeds pods from the silver birch tree.

This is what the seed pods look like.

After breaking up the pod, you have the leaves you need and some bits you don't.

On the left is the fresh green leaves and on the right is some left over from last year that have turned autumn brown with age.

a 1:35 figure standing amongst the leaves.

Placed on a diorama. when fixing it down, use white glue. not only does it stick it down, it also seals it as well so it don't rot or change colour.

Re: Leaves for dioramas.

That's a great idea. They really add a dimension to your KTII dio. I know that somebody makes three kinds of leaves in laser-cut paper too for 1/35 scale, but why bother when I have a silver birch tree in the back yard?

Re: Leaves for dioramas.

That's terrific JJ! I was suing an old paper punch that resembled leaves. This much better.

Re: Leaves for dioramas.

I hate birches in springtime (allergic) but now I may have to reconsider to not hate 'em durin' summer at least.

I did find this article where the same trick is used but here he even colours 'em...

Re: Leaves for dioramas.

Some guy in the June MMI has glued some onto a 1/35 scale tree trunk so that they look like ivy too...very nice it is too. My only criticism is that some of his ivy 'leaves' are upside down. He should have taken the time to glue them all the same way...now I'm thinking about walls covered with it too.
