Re: Naval Guns of the Yamato-class Battleships
Actually, the third. The second Yamato-class was the battleship Musashi.

The first hull launched as the battleship Yamato, which we don't have to go into details for ![]() The second hull launched as the battleship Musashi. Musashi was the ship that brought Yamamoto's ashes back to Japan and participated in the Leyte Gulf naval battle (Battle of Sibuyan Sea, specifically), among others. The third hull was converted to carrier Shinano, which was sunk only a handful of miles out of Yokosuka. She sank like a rock because her watertight doors were not installed yet. More details here: WW2DB: Shinano Thus, there were actually three hulls, though only two were considered "Yamato-class". The third hull is considered the first ship in a new class of warships since Shinano was not at all a battleship. |

Yes, you're right, there was another hull. It was scrapped pretty early on in the war (1942 or 1943?) when it was only partially complete. I think it was a priority change, but I forgot the exact reason. |

They are pretty nice, but I hear you have to give it enough time to train. In the beginning the training can be tedious, but I hear it's nice once it knows your pattern of speech.
