I have had a couple of oil based matt clear types which caused me real pain if they came into contact with silver, gold, or brass paint. One was the Humbrol type and the metal colours were Humbrol as well. They ran down the figure I was doing and ruined everything. I might have a go at the hairspray Freightshaker mentioned.
