Re: Model Kit Reviews

I suppose that could work too but it never occurred to me until you suggested it. I'm actually loosely following 'Mig' Jimenez' method of weathering just to find out what I can do. He uses a brush at this stage too. As I see it, the beauty of the brush is that the pigment settles in the lid. You can use less coloured dilutant, or more colour by stirring the mix up a little. If I sprayed, I'd get all the pigment quite quickly and then just dirty turps. I can see advantages to it though.

PzIV Filters1.jpg

The pic isn't the best but it shows the filter partly applied. As you can see, I haven't been too fussy about it. It's a very thin brew and the dilutant evaporates very quickly...I've given each filter about 24 hours to dry but Mig recommends two hours. The filters have also taken the gloss out of the areas where the decals are as I'd hoped they might. I sprayed gloss in small areas, applied the decals and then sealed them with gloss...it's almost seamless now. I'm hoping the next step will sort that out completely.

Re: Model Kit Reviews

I was at the ME110 thread and I remembered I had one in the shed that is from a couple of years ago (it was on special). It is an Airfix kit - a real blast from the past for many of us probably. The moulding isn't bad flash wise and the joins weren't too bad as I remember. The decal set is definitely different to the old one and has far more in it, including the little warning ones that went on the wings.

Certainly still a respectable kit, particularly for beginners.

Sorry about the dust.

Re: Model Kit Reviews

Looks pretty comprehensive. I've never built a full-resin kit before.

Re: Model Kit Reviews

I've only used three or maybe four resin/PE update or detail sets on aircraft so my resin 'lore' is limited. The biggest lump I have in my unbuilt stash, is the entire fighting-compartment of a Soviet SU-76i. The 'i' denotes a 'foreign' element to the vehicle. It's basically a Rusian Stug. built onto a Panzer III chassis.

Re: Model Kit Reviews

The fighting compartment is a solid block of resin. I didn't build the one in the pic by the way...mine, like a few others, is still in its box.
