A new guy

hey all

i had nothing to do so i decided to come on over here. Ive always had a love for history. Im probably the youngest one here. Im still in highschool but i still love history. I started to look into world war 2 when i was 12 and i have quite a bit of stuff on it now. Ive got a couple uniforms, metals, an SS helmet, Officers Hat, some marine pins. Lots of great stuff.
I guess ill tell a bit about me. I play drums in a metal band and i like to hang out with me friends. But ill shut up now. take care

Re: A new guy

Welcome aboard, Tate! Personally, I like the idea of younger people. Not quite as many preconceptions, so they're easier to train! It gives us a chance to unteach some of the garbage the public school systems are putting out, and getting young historians out on the right track!

BTW, I don't normally listen to metal, but I recently got turned on to a rather unusual punk type group. Ever listen to the Dropkick Murphys?

Re: A new guy

thanks. yea i do actually listen to them. You would probably like Flogging Molly. Good irish stuff there. Im with ya on the school education system. They dont really do anything with history. Four, six, pages on world war 2. Yea, thats informative. Nothing on the big battles; it was all basically on the holocaust. But im going to try and get some pictures of my uniforms and stuff.
peace

LOL. I listen to what people call "oldies" now. Music from the late 60's and 70's. Of course when I was your age "oldies" were from the 50's.

I was just listening to the "Layla and Other Love Songs" album from "Derek and the Dominoes" aka Eric Clapton, which was released in the early 70's. I still have a large collection of LP's, including that one, though no longer have a working turntable.

Re: A new guy

Jim, normally I'd feel the same way about "kids and their music." It sounds like you and I listen to the same stuff.

However, my sister told me about DKM. She knows I don't listen to punk, but she told me that they use bagpipes! Well, I just had to listen to see how anyone could use pipes in a punk band. I don't like every track on the CD I have, but it is interesting to hear some old Irish folk songs that they've, well, spiced up a bit!

Professionally speaking, I was amazed to find out that the opening act for this live CD was the Boston Police Department's Gaelic Column! I mean, how many punk bands get the local PD to open for them?!

Besides, after I've worked a double, they help me stay awake long enough to get home...
