Smile The new girl.....

Hey all!

My name is Melanie, and I am new here I don't know anything really about collecting or selling WWII memorabilia, but I'm hoping to learn.
It all started about a week ago when I was cleaning out a closet my husband (we were just married in March of this year) had been using for storage, when I found a pair of what would appear to be Nazi boots.
As it turns out my husband has a vast collection of WWII items that his deceased father had left to him. When I found the boots, I got curious as to what else he had and began the journey of searching through old trunks, scrapbooks, photos....and I found so many interesting items! I can't begin to explain how it felt to me as I read, and touched these items....so strange, and at the same time exhilerating. To have so much history right there before my eyes.....
So, I've begun to try and figure out exactly what we have and what it may be worth as well as learning how to preserve certain items. I am hoping that some of you will be able to teach me thing or two! And I look forward to getting to know all of you

Re: The new girl.....

Welcome Melanie!

I'm not an expert on memorabilia, but I'm sure some of us at the forum will be able to help or point you in the right direction. What I do have to offer, though, is my website World War II Database: Your WW2 History Reference Destination which an ever-growing library of photographs, which may help you identify the ww2-era memorabilia you have.

Once again, welcome! I hope you will have fun here on this forum!

Aye, Melanie, join in the fun by all means!

I can only imagine what it would be like to discover a treasure trove like that! Just for the record, I'm feeling jealous as, well, you know!

Hi Melanie!

Welcome to the Forum. It would be great if you could post some pictures of your findings. I have to admit that I am jealous. Very very jealous. Did your husbands father serve in the Wehrmacht?

Actually he was with the 20th Armored Division. I belive the duration was from 1942-1945. According to his division book they went to Danube, Dachau, Munich and Salzburg.

And thanks everyone for the warm welcome!!!

Re: The new girl.....

Hey, it's not our fault! Hell, how many Amis confuse Austria with Australia? Besides, if you've seen the movie, and you're in Salzburg, how can you not visit those sites?

At least I also went by Ribbentrop's old house...

Re: The new girl.....

Good point. Thats why the Austrian government sponsered T-Shirts with "There are no Cangoroos in Austria" on 'em.
