Marine Pioneers

My father was commanding officer, Co. B, 1st Pioneer Bn, 1st Mar. Div. on Guadalcanal. They landed August 7, 1942. FYI, Wikipedia is wrong on this. His service record clearly states he landed on Beach Red on Aug. 7. He later was also C.O. of the 2nd Bn, 17th Marines (Engineers) through Jan. 1943. I am trying to piece together the holes in his service record to answer questions from my children. He later was wounded on Okinawa. He retired in 1959 as a Brigadier General. I have about 25 photos that are mostly unpublished of him and his men on Guadalcanal. I have identified some of the men but many are unidentified. Just trying to track down any men who may have served with him in hopes of sharing the photos with them or their families.

Welcome to the site. As for Wiki, you can edit that yourself if you like (anyone can).

If you have the ability to scan we would all love to see the photos you have. Each member here currently has unlimited space in the photo gallery here at the site.
