Re: I have landed
Ok,
after my a bit enigmatic presenation a bit more about me... my name is... Arrigo... I italian, trained in ancient history and now I am attending a MA in... war studies. My main military history interests are the roman Army, ACW, the boxer rebellion, WW1 in the middle east, Pacific war, Korea, Vietnam and Arab Israeli war. My interest in WW2 sparked from seeing "the battle of Midway" at age of 4. My main hobbies are wargaming and modelling that often meet on miniature wargaming. Witthout describing all my wargaming project here, some of most relevant ones for this forum are: Far East and the Pacific 28mm: japanese completed (maybe some addition soon) USMC (completed (Plan to add a Satan, a couple of guns and an LVT4 for Iwo) Australians (started collecting pieces) Anglo-indian (started, got a Grant from chieftain Models, wonderful) Far East and the Pacific 15mm USMC (started painting) Japanese (collecting complete, have to start painting) Commonwealth (still collecting) North-Western Europe 28mm British Paratrooper completed German (in painting process) American winter 44-45 (priming) latest wargame bought: The devil's Cauldron |

Re: I have landed
TRDG,
Ihave discovered that pacific theater is much more filled of armor than usually tought. Marine beach landings from tarawa onward were mechianzed operations, the brits used a lot of armor in india-burma, the australian in new guinea and borneo (Matilda Frog... look at the wonderful Chieftain models kit) and the US Army used it a lot everywhere even in the initial campaign in the philippines. Just no tiger (but Stalins in manchuria in 1945). Arrigo |

The U.S. and british had some armour over in the Pacific, and used them fairly well for the terrain and beach assaults going on, once they got the hang of it. Cheers, will you start a Pacific "armour" thread or two by chance here? Tom |

Re: I have landed
Very interesting David...I hope to see you participating in some games in the Game Forum Game Den very soon!
Like TRDG, I haven't played a lot of Pacific Theater...my Dad was in the Canadian Army in WWII, and that started my interest primarily in the the ETO. But that said, I have slowly come to appreciate how different, and interesting, the Pacific was. I have an old War in the Pacific mega game, I believe it was an Avalon Hill title, down in my game room, but haven't played it yet. For the Pacific, I have played a scenario of Memoir '44 with the Pacific Expansion, which is EXCELLENT (you may want to look into it, as it is psedo-miniature wargaming!). I am planning on hosting a Memoir '44 game in the Game Den soon...and I'm sure I'll sneak in a Pacific scenario in there at some point. The other game I have that has Pacific components is Axis & Allies: Miniatures (another you may wish to peek at); and again, another game I plan to host in the near future. Good to have another gamer at the Zone, and I look forward to seeing you in the Game Forum, my friend! Ciao!!
