Need Information

I am a student in a WWII seminar class. For my senior paper, and one I plan to submit to Grad Schools as writing sample, I am writing about Spam and it's effect in World War II. I am writing about the effects that it had in Hawaii specifically. How it became so poplualr, what efforts were made by hormel to push it to be in GI rations Ect. I have read Mark Pendergrast account of Coke in "For God Country and Coca-Cola," and wondering if anyone could direct me in a good direction. Even if it is about companies in general I would appreciate it.

Re: Need Information

Hi Clifford and welcome to the site.

I remember reading about Hormel, Spam, and World War II some time back but cannot remember exactly where.

Have you tried contacting the people at the Spam Museum?

Re: Need Information

I would call the spam museum, but I don't think they would have or give me the information I am looking for. My paper is somewhat synicle toward companies. Not about there efforts in helping the war but how they prospered and gained large markets because of the War. This could relate to any company if you knew of sources or examples from other corporations prospering from war contracts.

Hey, you're just requesting information! You don't have to tell them you're going to talk bad about them!!!

I'd try googling some combinations of HORMEL, SPAM, MARKETING and WWII. Creative use of those terms, and anything else you can think of will probably pull some stuff up. Just make sure if you use the term SPAM, you use it inside quote marks, with "... + HORMEL!" Otherwise, you're going to get 87 billion hits about people complaining about garbage on their computers!

Re: Need Information

I can't believe that there is a museum about SPAM! A museum?! Come on! Spam, Spam, Spam with bacon! Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam and Spam with eggs...

I always loved that sketch.

I too think that you are better off if you don't tell'em. Wouldn't be wise to say: "Hello, I would like to know everything about your company to make you look bad." If the answer is still "yes", they have probably worked in the Spam-museum for too long.

Re: Need Information

Tom put it well. All you are doing is requesting information on the subject for an academic paper. They needn't know what your hypothesis is.
