Swastika in the Hofbrauhaus
Here's an interesting left-over from the days of Nazi Germany.
If you ever find yourself in Munich, here's something interesting to do. First, go to the Hofbrauhaus (always a good idea!), one of the most popular beer halls in Europe, if not the world. When you're there in the big main room, look at the light fixtures on the ceiling, and follow the cables/chains that attach them to the ceiling. Where the cables attach to the ceiling are the centers of what used to be a large swastikas, perhaps five or six feet in diameter. While the swastikas have been painted over in some decorative designs, they are still easily detectable if you know what you're looking for. Unfortunately, I do not have any photos of this. I didn't know about the ceiling for the first few times I visited the Hofbrauhaus, but then someone mentioned something and I finally saw it. Interesting thing to check out the next time you go there.

Re: Swastika in the Hofbrauhaus
I had seen this swastika last year in June.
There is also other interesting thing - rumour perhaps. On the left hand side of the main hall is small room with sort of a racks where locals can keep their beer steins. They wash them in a copper sink, then put into mailbox size padlocked lockers. When I visited Hofbrauhaus one of the locals told us that Hitler's stein is still there. No one knows which one it is, but is worshipped. Indeed one of the racks was decorated with green applications. Apparently faithful locals decorate it every year before Adi's birthday - 20-th April. ![]() Undecorated rack. ![]() Decorated one is behind me. So, Klaus go there, sort the riddle and show us the Holy Grail of nazis.. I have to admit that I had too many beers to think properly. Cheers, Lancer44 |
