WWII US currency

The link is to an article on special currency
the US used in WWII, and other topics. I have
seen the Hawaii overprinted dollar in a numismatic museum in Colo. Springs, Colo. USA.

You would think the moral affects of thinking
the US might be abandoning you would outweigh
whatever gains the Japanese might have achieved
from using captured currency if they conquered
Hawaii.

I wonder if other countries did something similar
to some of their money and if not, was captured
money ever successfully used in a significant way?
